WHAT IS THE SEQUOIA COMMUNITY CORPS?

The Sequoia Community Corps (SCC) offers vocational training in the trades of weatherization, urban forestry, conservation education, and recycling, including the recycling of CRV beverage containers, e-waste, used oil, and waste tires. SCC has successfully operated in Tulare and Kings Counties for the past 34 years, providing more than 4,000 young adults with valuable job training and educational opportunities.

In addition to the services offered to young adults, the SCC also assists local governments, agencies and businesses meet critical community needs such as park development, recycling services, and natural resource conservation in local recreation areas. 

Orientation is held every 2nd and 4th Tuesday from 8:30 AM - 9:30 AM, for more information call (559) 732-4194.

RECYCLING SERVICES AVAILABLE TO ALL
With funding from CalRecycle, the SCC has built an infrastructure that promotes and provides convenient recycling of beverage containers, electronic waste and used oil throughout Tulare and Kings Counties including the surrounding mountain areas of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.

 

URBAN FORESTRY

Conservation and environmental stewardship are key components of the SCC. Corpsmembers learn essential career skills, develop leadership qualities, and become environmental stewards.

RESTORING NATIVE VEGETATION AND A SENSE OF COMMUNITY
Conservation and environmental stewardship are key components of the Urban Forestry Program. Corpsmembers learn essential career skills while developing a passion for the communities they serve. Partnerships with local municipalities have led to an average planting of 500-1000 trees per year.

 

HOME WEATHERIZATION

KEEPING ENERGY COSTS DOWN AND CAREER PROSPECTS HIGH
Green is in and corpsmembers in the Weatherization Program are ahead of the trend. With specialized training for jobs in the green industry, participants serve their communities while improving their own prospects for a better life.

TURNING HARD WORK AND TRAINING INTO STEADY EMPLOYMENT

The Back2Work program offers paid transitional employment opportunities to underserved adults. This second chance program helps participants develop valuable work history, employment soft skills, paid job training, and much more! Veterans have priority enrollment!

HELPING LOCAL INDIVIDUALS AFFECTED BY HOMELESSNESS ATTAIN EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
The Environmental Cleanup Opportunities (ECO) Project is a transitional jobs program that assists individuals experiencing homelessness in Visalia gain job readiness skills and work experience, with the goal of obtaining stable employment and housing.

 

CIty of Porterville Clean CA

The City of Porterville Clean CA program offers paid transitional employment opportunities to underserved adults. This second chance program helps participants through; Job Readiness workshops where participants learn about the job interview process, build a résumé, and develop budgeting techniques to balance personal finances.
