Urban Forestry, St. John’s Riverway Project in Visalia, CA

The St. John’s River Parkway Project is located on the Northside of Visalia. This is a 10 acre Corridor that runs parallel to the St. John’s River and there is also a pedestrian asphalt path that will be on the Northside of this project. Invasive plants have been removed, a complete irrigation system has been installed for native trees, and understory plants will be installed. There will also be a four inch layer of mulch that will be installed on this project. This project is being installed by the City of Visalia to facilitate trail use during the long hot summer. Beautification and improvements will promote walking, jogging, and bicycle riding on the existing asphalt path.

For the past several months, the SCC’s Urban Forestry crew has been working on the Saint John’s Riverway, which is located North of the Visalia Sports Park. The corps cleared out the land of waste, prepped the soil for planting, and laid 3720 square yards of mulch in preparation for planting hundreds of trees and bushes in the area. The team also installed an automated irrigation system throughout the entire area. This project would not have been possible without our longtime partner, the Urban Tree Foundation.
